• ‘Stražilovo’ Mountain Lodge – Velika Remeta – Grgeteg – TV tower – Stolovi – ‘Stražilovo’ Mountain Lodge •

  • From the mountain lodge, you descend through the forest along a footpath marked with a marathon sign (a white circle with a red heart) down to the road that leads through the Stražilovo valley (10 min).
  • When you turn onto the forest trail, go left towards Brankov čardak Restaurant (10 min).
  • In front of the restaurant to the left there is a stream. Cross the bridge and walk along the path uphill (10 min). The trail is marked with blue and white blazes.
  • Getting onto the ridge you will find a dirt road. Here you turn right and continue along the road (20 min) until it exits to the asphalt ridge road. At this point you turn left on the asphalt road after about 100 m, and then turn right onto a gravel road that takes you through a community of cottages to the village of Velika Remeta (15 min).
  • On reaching the foot of the hill, turn right on the asphalt road after about 300 m to reach Šumski raj Restaurant (5 min). Here you can take a break for refreshments and a meal.
  • Continue for another 500 m to the entrance to the monastery yard (5 min). As you enter, to the left, there are several authentic wooden huts worth seeing. To the left of the entrance, there are interesting wooden huts that are worth seeing. Walking around the huts, you reach the Monastery of Velika Remeta. After visiting the monastery, we suggest taking a stroll around the beautifully decorated grounds with water cascades. You can also buy honey and wine produced locally by the residents of the monastery. To the right of the monastery, walk along the forest road that begins with a sharp bend and slowly climbs through the forest for about 200 m, reaching the crossroads where you turn right and continue for another 100 m. From there it takes you through a pine forest for another 200 m uphill (20 min).
  • There are several cottages in front of you and you continue straight downhill between the cottages for about 300 m, turning right after another 500 m approximately. There is a spring at 100 m to your left, with fresh drinking water. Continue along the same road and after 200 m turn right, cross a village yard after which you will find yourself on a paved street in the village of Grgeteg (30 min).
  • Turn right on the asphalt road after about 300 m, then head the left, crossing the bridge, and then to the right for another 500 m, to the Monastery of Grgeteg (10 min). Here you can take a longer break to visit the Monastery and relax on the benches set up on the right side of the stream. There you can also inspect an interesting geological cross-section of the land.
  • After this break, leaving the monastery yard, follow the wide road bending to the left, uphill, into the woods (15 min).
  • At the crossroads with signposts, turn right uphill along a wide forest road that leads you through a beautiful deciduous forest. The road is long and leads you to the wooden barracks and horse stables used by people pulling wood from the forest (50 min).
  • Continue for another 500 m to the asphalt ridge road, cross it, and then walk for another 100 m to the asphalt road and the TV tower (5 min).
  • Turn right in another 50 m, and to the right again on the hiking trail into the woods. (To the right of the tower is the Norcev Hotel where you can take a break for drinks and a meal).
  • The trail takes you downhill through the forest all the way to the hiking trails crossroads called Stolovi (previously called Astal, meaning ‘tables’) where you can take a short break (30 min).
  • From here, continue straight uphill for 100 m, and then downhill passing by ‘‘Ksena’’ Cottage (15 min). There you will find a table and benches, and a magnificent view of Novi Sad and the slopes of Fruška gora.
  • The road descends past the fields and orchards to the crossroads, where you turn left and go past the Cross (which is on your left) to continue to the wide area called Bukovacke ledine (15 min).
  • Here you turn right onto the gravel road (to the left there is a demolished military facility) which leads across a meadow offering a beautiful view of Novi Sad, and past several cottages and fields to the vineyards. At the crossroads, turn right and after 300 m you arrive at “Stražilovo” Mountain Lodge (30 min).

The trail is marked with trail markers and signposts. The time required to cover the trail is 4.5 – 5 hours of light walking.
