• ‘Stražilovo’ Mountain Lodge – Branko Radičević’s tomb – Grgeteg – Velika Remeta – ‘Stražilovo’ Mountain Lodge •

  • From the mountain lodge, you descend through the forest along a footpath marked with a marathon sign (a white circle with a red heart) down to the road that leads through the Stražilovo valley (10 min).
  • When you get off the forest road, go straight to cross the stream and continue for another 200 m along the forest path to the signpost that directs you left, across the stream, and uphill to a hiking trail marked with a marathon sign. The trail climbs steeply to the hilltop (40 min).
  • Here you will find a signpost that directs you 30 m to the right towards a large wooden pergola with benches, where you can take a break or continue for another 100 m to the monument and grave of the Serbian Romantic poet Branko Radičević. You can also have a rest here on the benches set up on a paved plateau.
  • From the monument, take a right turn, past the large wooden gazebo along a wide forest road and after 200 m to the left there is a monument to fallen soldiers in World War II.
  • The road takes you slightly uphill until you reach the asphalt ridge road (40 min).
  • Turn left on the asphalt road in about 100 m, then turn left again into the forest and continue down the gently sloping forest track leading to a V-shaped intersection (20 min).
  • Take the right fork uphill first, then downhill to the asphalt ridge road (20 min).
  • Cross the asphalt road and turn right onto the forest road that leads you to the cottage, where you turn right and after 800 m you will get to a beautiful panoramic spot (15 min). There is spacious gazebo with a table and benches.
  • Continue to the right, descending through the forest to a stream and a small wooden bridge. On the right side, you will find an interesting geological cross-section of the land. Cross the bridge to arrive to the courtyard of the Monastery of Grgeteg (20 min). After visiting the Monastery you can enjoy a longer pause.
  • Continue your way leaving the monastery grounds towards the village of Grgeteg to the old well pole, where you should turn left to cross the bridge, and then right, walking for another 500 m (10 min).
  • Now turn left onto the dirt road between two farms and slowly climb towards a cottage about 500 m away, where you will then turn right to walk about 20 m and then left again for about 500 m (15 min).
  • Here, 30 m away on the right-hand side of the road, there is a spring so you can refill your water supplies.
  • Continue beside the orchard until a sharp turn to the left to take you uphill for about 500 m to a larger crossing of forest roads between two cottages (30 min).
  • Continue through a pine forest where the path takes you to the Monastery of Velika Remeta (20 min). After visiting the monastery, take the opportunity to stroll around the beautifully decorated grounds with water cascades. Honey and wine produced locally by the residents of the monastery are available for purchase. To the right, there are interesting wooden huts that are worth seeing.
  • From the Monastery, take the asphalt road downhill for about 500 m to Šumski Raj Restaurant, where refreshments and meals are available (10 min).
  • From there, the asphalt road takes you about 200 m further, where you head left uphill through a community of cottages to exit to the asphalt ridge road (20 min).
  • You turn left on the asphalt road after about 100 m, and then again to the right on the dirt road past cottages, orchards and fields over the Kurjakovac ridge. The path gently descends to the rim of the forest where you should notice the signpost that directs you left onto a narrow hiking trail (40 min).
  • You descend steeply through the forest to the Stražilovo picnic area, and arrive at Brankov čardak Restaurant (15 min).
  • After crossing the stream, continue straight along the forest track through the valley for about 1,000 m to reach a large signpost directing you to the Lodge (10 min).
  • Here you turn right, uphill along the hiking trail to the “‘Stražilovo’ Mountain Lodge (10 min).

The trail is marked with trail markers and signposts. The time required to cover the trail is 7-8 hours of walking at a leisurely pace.
